Hiya, I'm Laura!
I've had a bit of a break from blogging but I'm back. And I've decided to try and write about something I'm really really passionate about.
Politics and society
Okay don't laugh. For those of you who have previously read my blogs, I normally write about clothes and beauty. Yes I still love it and over the summer, will try to restart that blog. But during term times, something so unrelated was really hard to keep on top of.
Anyway, I'm in my second year of sixth form in the UK. I take History, Politics and English lit A level and want to take History and Politics at university. So yeah, you could say I'm pretty "political". At first my friends were surprised, apparently I don't look like the "political type"- whatever that is. However after plenty of debates, rants and discussions, they've fully accepted me as the politically aware member of the group and will often ask if they don't understand something that's going on in the news.
How did Trump get in power?
What are the real arguments for both the leave and brexis parties in the EU referendum?
What does Conservative/Labour really mean?
What is cultural appropriation and what's the big deal?
Why is university free for Scottish but not for English students?
Should I be a feminist?
These are all really important, current questions that I know a lot of my friends have no clue about. In no way is it their fault, I think its the incompetency of our schools that don't teach our generation properly on these kind of topics. And when you try to listen to the news it bias, confusing and just plain annoying.
That's way I wanted to make this blog. Less to teach people, more to explain these terms so as a generation, we can make our own judgements. Because as we become more politically active on social media (which I think is a fab thing!!), it's also important that we're politically aware.
Please please let me know what you think of this idea. Whether you'd be interested, bored or think it's a good thing. I'm really nervous so would love to know your opinions/ideas!
Thank you and hope you're having a nice half term,
Laura x
